A Clo Bare Money Coach student success story
She didn’t check her accounts for over a year. Not because she was avoiding it. Because she’d finally automated it. When Miranda finally sat down and added everything up — her 401k, her Roth IRA, her brokerage account — she found $70,000 she didn’t know she had. She started at zero. Here’s how a dental hygienist turned sales professional went from “doggy paddling” through her finances to a $70,000 net worth swing, a doubled income, and a level of confidence she says has changed how she moves through the entire world — not just her bank account.
Where Miranda Started
Miranda took the Lazy Investor’s Course in its very first cohort. She bought it for herself on Christmas Eve, as a gift.
Before that, she describes herself as being in survival mode. She’d had small amounts in retirement accounts before, but she kept cashing them out early — penalties and all — rather than letting them grow.
“I was in sort of doggy paddle mode. I was in survival,” she says. “I know I’ll take the penalty, whatever.”
She also didn’t know who to trust. Like a lot of women navigating money advice online, she’d run into plenty of accounts built on fear — the kind that push you into reactive decisions instead of a steady plan.
“There’s a lot of accounts out there who want you to base your actions on fear. And I don’t like that,” she says.
What pulled her in was simple: a free guide that made investing feel approachable, and the message that this isn’t rocket science — anyone can do it.
The Results: By the Numbers
A year and a half after finishing the course, here’s where Miranda’s numbers landed:
Her first move after taking the course wasn’t even investing — it was building that emergency fund. Only once that felt solid did she turn to her Roth IRA, then her 401k (where she’s maximizing her employer match), with a plan to max out her 401k contributions entirely this year.
“My money needs a job,” she says of the extra she’s now finding ways to put to work.
The Automation Payoff
What makes Miranda’s story different from a lot of testimonials is the surprise.
She didn’t track her net worth climbing month over month. She set up her accounts, automated her contributions, and kept living her life. Then, over a year later, she looked back and added it all up.
“I’ve just been putting my head down, and the months have gone on and on… I kind of added up all of my apps and how much money I have, and I now have a net worth of $70,000.”
That’s the lazy investor way in action — pay yourself first, set it and forget it, and let time in market do what it does. No spreadsheets. No daily check-ins. No timing anything.
“I am the poster child for just invest and chill,” Miranda says.
The Part That Goes Beyond Money
The most unexpected shift for Miranda wasn’t in her investment accounts. It was in her career.
After watching one of Clo’s supplemental videos on job hunting and negotiation, Miranda felt emboldened to make a leap out of dental hygiene — her prior ceiling was around $80,000 a year — and into sales.
“That in and of itself proved to me I could do something I never thought I could do before,” she says.
That leap is a large part of why her income has more than doubled. And it’s carried into other areas of her life too — she’s traveling for work now, with a trip to Switzerland on the calendar.
She also talks about a shift in mindset that goes deeper than any single number: learning to tune out fear-based financial noise, and instead claiming her own progress.
“You have to believe it for yourself. What else is going to believe it for you?”
Is Clo Bare Money Coach Worth It? Miranda’s Answer
A year and a half ago, Miranda didn’t know who to trust with her money, and she was cashing out retirement accounts rather than letting them grow.
Today, she has a $70,000 net worth, a maxed-out Roth IRA, a full emergency fund, a doubled income, and a language around money she says is now entirely her own.
“It’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for myself… it’s so empowering.”
